Explorers

Explorers is the final youth section in the scouting family.  Explorers range from 14-18yrs.

Our Explorers is open to Scouts coming from any group in Calder District.

We run on a Monday nights 7.45pm till 9.30pm.

What do explorers do?

Explorers do a wide range of things but by this age range, the emphasis has changed to allow them to play a big part in deciding what they want to do as a unit. There are no real limits to what can be done – we regularly go camping, do day visits, and even just chill out together round a camp fire!

A night at Explorers varies from week to week. All weeks have something in common, friendship and fun!

So far in 2022 we’ve been laser questing, Duke of Edinburgh Expeditioning, Orienteering, Backwoods Cooking, Camping, Paddle boarding, Kayaking and Canoeing with much more planned!

  • Mon - 22 Jan - First Night Back - Planning
  • Mon - 29 Jan - Route Cards
  • Mon - 05 Feb - Keep talking and nobody explodes
  • Mon - 12 Feb - HOLIDAY
  • Mon - 19 Feb - Expedition Cooking
  • Mon - 26 Feb - First Aid
  • Mon - 04 Mar - Chief Scout Award Work + Taskmaster

Who are the leaders?

Our leadership team is entirely made up of volunteers who enjoy running explorer meetings and camps! All adult leaders have training and a PVG check, and there is always at least one adult who is first aid qualified.

If you would like the opportunity to do something you’d never thought of doing, while having lots of fun and giving back to the community at the same time, please get in touch – we can always do with more leaders! See the full group leadership and executive committee here.

Our Leaders are

Andy Wilson

Bruce Hudson

Where do my Badges Go?

Explorer scouts work towards their Queen Scouts Award by achieving various badges through participating in a wide range of activities. Please sew the badges on in the positions shown below:

The Scotland badge should be placed between the group name tape and country/area/region badges.

More information about the badge scheme can be found on the scouts.org.uk website.
